Korean Banana Milk Price and History: An Introduction

Korean Banana Milk Price and History: This post will introduce them. I recently saw a news report about how banana milk is so popular among foreigners that the refrigerators in convenience stores in Myeongdong, a popular area for foreigners, are completely stocked with it. So, I'd like to introduce the price and history of banana milk for foreigners.

The photo above shows the types of banana milk sold by Binggrae.

Most Korean convenience stores carry banana milk. Of course, they might not have it because everyone else has already bought it, but it's a basic product that stores stock. Foreigners are more likely to buy banana milk at convenience stores than at large supermarkets or online, due to its convenient accessibility.

There are several convenience stores in Korea, but the two main companies are GS25 and CU. These two companies account for 76% of all convenience stores in Korea. As of October 26, 2025, a 240ml bottle of banana milk at GS25 costs 1,800 won, which translates to $1.27. It's also 1,800 won at CU.

The official name for Korean banana milk is Banana Flavored Milk. The original banana milk was created by a company called Binggrae. Because banana milk is so popular, other companies have created many copycat versions, but Binggrae is the original and remains the most popular.

Korean banana milk comes in Original Banana Milk, Light Banana Milk, Strawberry Flavored Milk, Melona Flavored Milk, and Unsweetened Banana Flavored Milk. While Original Banana Milk is arguably the most delicious, those concerned about their blood sugar levels might consider the Unsweetened or Light versions. Strawberry and Melona flavors are also available, so it's worth picking up a bottle or two if you have them.

Banana milk has been on the market since June 1974. At that time, Daeil Dairy, the predecessor of today's Binggrae, launched Korea's first banana-flavored milk, marking the first time in Korean dairy history that a banana-flavored dairy product had been available. The reason for this, of course, was to make money.

This product is made with bananas, a rare commodity in Korea during the 1970s, a time of poverty, and is designed with a moon jar motif. Banana milk contains at least 85% raw milk. It also has HACCP certification, which certifies only safe products, from the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

Banana milk is also popular among Koreans. It has been ranked first in the processed milk category for 17 consecutive years.

This post has introduced the Korean banana milk price. It's affordable and readily available, so if you visit Korea, I recommend buying a few. It's delicious. These days, people even make cafe lattes using banana milk, so you might want to look up a recipe on YouTube and try it yourself. Be happy!!
